More than 100 years of history are on display in the hotel and in historic Fort Benton. Built at the height of Fort Benton’s prosperity and the steamboat era on the Upper Missouri River, the Grand Union hotel was once proclaimed the finest hotel between St. Louis and Seattle. Over 300 guests, including some of the most prominent men and women in Montana history, attended the hotel’s opening with the biggest party the town and Territory had ever seen.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and recipient of several state and national restoration awards the Grand Union is Montana’s oldest operating hotel and state and national landmark.
