THE GRAND

UNION

More than 100 years of history are on display in the hotel and in historic Fort Benton. Built at the height of Fort Benton’s prosperity and the steamboat era on the Upper Missouri River, the Grand Union hotel was once proclaimed the finest hotel between St. Louis and Seattle. Over 300 guests, including some of the most prominent men and women in Montana history, attended the hotel’s opening with the biggest party the town and Territory had ever seen.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and recipient of several state and national restoration awards, the Grand Union is Montana’s oldest operating hotel and national landmark.

"What a treat it was to stay at the historic Grand Union Hotel! We appreciated the warm welcome we received when we arrived on a dark, rainy evening. Our room was clean and had a wonderful view of the Missouri River and fall colors. We’d like to especially thank Cindy and Karen for their hospitality, friendliness, and information about local highways and sights to see. We look forward to our next visit!"

"What a gem! From the moment we walked in, we were met with warm hospitality. It felt as though we were stepping back into time as the lobby was so stately. The rooms were very well appointed and comfortable. We had a room facing the street and there was no noise coming through.. The location is fantastic. It was an easy walk for us yo see everything wanted to. They are also very Service Dog friendly!"
